Truely ! Reaching out to the World has become so easy. In fact only a click away. I can now pick my thoughts lying in a corner in the dusty bookshelf, brush them clean and reach it out to the World. The feeling is great! I am now an integral part of a global community that cares to exchange its thoughts. Our ancient scriptures say"Vasudaiva kutumbakam" -the whole World is one family. I have now become a member of such a family.

Hello
I am a librarian at the British Library in London, UK. I wish to know something about the surname of Bandhakavi. I have noticed that there is a large body of telugu people with this surname. Could you please let me know where and when this clan origated from, a historical context if possible. At present I am dealing with a book published in 2005 in Telugu called Manava vedam written by Bandhakavi Subbaravu. I have never seen such a clan name, but I do think that the term denotes a form of poets. I hope you can shed some of your thoughts on this. Thank you.
Hi
first of all embarrassed to respond so late and apologies for the same.
I am afraid I can throw only some light as I am also not sure of the origin. It appears that these are 'Aru vela niyogi' brahmins that settled predominantly in the west godavari district of Andhra pradesh as I trace back upto late 19th century. My great grandfather and their family originated from those areas and they were reasonably well known there. some historical accounts indicate that these may be a part of the 6000 brahmin families the Golconda brahmin Ministers Akkanna and Madanna brought from around the country and got them settled in the areas ruled by the Golconda Nawabs. These were brought to facilitate administration of areas.
I heard that the name definitely indicates linkage to a family of poets. My brush with some telugu literature reveal that 'Bandha kavitvam' means a type of poetry that is written by restricting the usage of some meter.Am curious to know more.
Thanks & Regards
